Nippon Ishin
Nippon Ishin no Kai
Japan Restoration Party (2012-2014), Japan Innovation Party (2014-2016), NIppon Ishin (2016-)
The Japan Innovation Party (維新の党) was originally founded in 2012 as the Japan Restoration Party (日本維新の会) under the leadership of Tōru Hashimoto, then Mayor of Ōsaka city. Following Hashimoto's resignation and several realignments, the party merged with the Unity Party (結いの党) led by Kenji Eda and renamed itself the Japan Innovation Party (維新の党) in 2014. In 2015, some members sought alignment with the Democratic Party of Japan (民主党), which later merged into the Democratic Party (民進党), while other factions split and reorganized themselves as the Initiatives from Ōsaka (おおさか維新の会), and later the Vision of Reform (改革結集の会).
In 2016, aiming to be a nation-wide party, the Initiatives from Ōsaka renamed itself again as Nippon Ishin (日本維新の会). Also in 2016, they published a constitutional draft, aiming mainly for provisions of free education, governmental reform, and establishment of a constitutional court. In the same year, they announced a "Draft Constitutional Amendment" focusing primarily on free education, governance reform, and the constitutional court.
In 2022, they partially revised the 2016 "Draft Constitutional Amendment" by incorporating provisions explicitly recognizing the Self-Defense Forces and introducing an emergency clause.
On their current website, the Japan Innovation Party shares information about the party and their policies, activities, and members.
